Parenting Programs

The Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP) provides three different parenting education experiences under the heading I Parent, to provide support and information to parents of young children. Each parenting group is offered as a 6-week series, at each of our centers at least one time throughout the year. The program sessions last 2 ½ hours and are designed for small groups to promote in-depth discussions. Groups can also be offered at other community locations upon request. The purpose of the I Parent groups is to provide a group activity in which parents and facilitators discuss parenting interests and strategies

Peaceful Parenting
Peaceful Parenting groups focus on the specific parenting priorities of each unique group of participants. Peaceful Parenting participants will collectively determine the agenda during the first session to ensure it meets needs of the group. Topics can include, but are not limited to, home safety, developing routines and traditions, caring for infants, selecting childcare, child development, and accessing community resources.

Happy Couples, Happy Kids
The Happy Couples and Happy Kids (HCHK) Project at the Family, Infant, and Preschool Program (FIPP) Early Head Start is a family education program and research project based on a body of evidence regarding the effects of marital conflict on children. Participation in the HCHK program requires couples to attend together. All co-parents are welcome, including married couples, partners, and extended family members sharing parenting responsibilities. During each visit families learn about conflict and how it affects family relationships in different ways. Couples learn about the most constructive ways to handle their disagreements.

Between Us: ABCs
The Between Us: ABCs helps families in understand and respond to child(ren)'s behaviors in positive ways. These classes focus on how to have successful parent-child communication and interactions and how to provide appropriate emotional support to young children. This group is especially helpful to parents that find it challenging to cope with their children's behaviors.

I Parent classes are perfect for parents with young children who are interested in discussing their parenting styles in a group format and planning for ways to improve family functioning, including families involved with Child Protective Services, grandparents raising grand children, single parents, teen parents, and foster/adoptive parents..

To sign up for I Parent classes, contact your local FIPP Family Resource Center.
